New Sight Fundraising Dinner 2018
We’re delighted to invite you to the New Sight Fundraising Dinner 2018 on Saturday, 12 May, at 6:30 pm at the Kerry Hotel, and the dress code is cocktail or African. Since the launch of our ambitious campaign last year to open a larger eye hospital in Ouesso, Republic of Congo, the progress has simply been spectacular. We are humbled that we have now passed half of our fundraising target, but we still need your help to achieve that goal.

What is the Ouesso Hospital Project?
Following the successful establishment of the Impfondo eye centre, we were invited by local authorities to build a new eye hospital in Ouesso. The strategic location of Ouesso can make eye care accessible for the entire country of Congo and even neighbouring countries. We started our pre-feasibility studies in July 2016. Under the guidance of our Project Steering Group, the construction plan has since been revised, and the budget updated accordingly (details below).
How much do you need to build the hospital, and how much have you already raised?
The capital cost of this green field project is estimated to be HK$65 million. We have already raised over half the estimated budget, the majority of which was achieved since the project campaign started March 2017. With this gala, we look to raise another HK$10-15 million which will enable us to commence construction and complete the fundraising.
What is the Samoutou family doing in Hong Kong?
The Samoutous are ordinarily in Congo. They have been in Hong Kong since August 2017 for 12-15 months to raise funds, coordinate design and grow capacity to build and open the new hospital. See previous posts “One Step Closer to Ouesso” and “One Step Closer to Ouesso – via Hong Kong Q&A“.
How are the donations going to be used and are they tax-deductible?
All the proceeds of our fundraising dinner will go to the construction and fitting out of the Ouesso Eye Hospital. Donations to New Sight are tax-deductible as we are a registered charity in Hong Kong and UK. You can donate here.
