Support local trade

This gentleman, whose workshop is 5-minutes’ walk from our Team Compound in Ouesso, has been a professional tailor for 30 years. Originally from Brazzaville, he was once a soldier but decided to settle in Ouesso. Papa Tailor makes clothes for our Ouesso Pioneers and visitors with the Congolese fabric of vibrant hues and striking prints.

Beltrice, from the same workshop as Papa Tailor, is featured in the photo with the beautiful bags she makes.

Salvatore, Papa Tailor’s son, is now learning the trade from his father. He goes to school in the capital, Brazzaville, and is eager to hone his craft when he is back home. He made the hair scrunchies from scrap fabric, sourced from local tailors in the community.

Support our volunteers

Ginny, our volunteer from Quebec, Canada, taught Cherissa and Megan how to sew when they stayed in Congo over their summer break. They made various crafts, including fabric business card holders.

The girls are back in school (in UK and US respectively) but they continue to create these delightful handicrafts whenever they have time.

Support New Sight

We serve in the Republic of Congo to restore sight to people who are needlessly blind. We also work to empower the community, and one aspect is supporting local trade. When you buy the item in your hands, you’re supporting our sight-saving work and also our hardworking neighbours. Thank you!
